"A painful but necessary story to understand if we are to move forward as a nation committed to helping young people develop into mentally healthy adults."

— Tom Insel, Former President of the National Institute of Mental Health

Over 20 years ago the world attempted to make sense of the shocking events at Columbine High School. With such tragedies still occurring with alarming frequency, we are still doing the work of supporting our students so that everyone can feel safe at school. American Tragedy examines the role mental health plays in the development of school shooters through the story of Sue Klebold, the mother of Columbine perpetrator Dylan Klebold. Through her experience it becomes clear that preventing such tragedies requires serious changes to our institutions and the ways in which we address mental health in school.
